Preparing for emergencies is serious, but it doesn’t have to be dull. San Diego County Fire’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer group trained to help their neighbors during a disaster. Members also attend community events to share information about disaster preparedness.

There was a whole lot of shaking going on Thursday at San Diego County’s Waterfront Park for Great ShakeOut day. State emergency officials brought their earthquake simulator to the park to teach about quake preparedness and let people actually feel what a 7.0 magnitude earthquake would be like.

At the height of the now 95 percent contained Airport Fire, County Animal Services answered a mutual aid request to help evacuate animals and work at a shelter where families with animals had been evacuated in Riverside County.
