County Awarded $12.4 million to Establish New Recuperative Beds

County Behavioral Health Services has been awarded $12.4 million in state funding for bridge housing. The funds will be used to create 49 new recuperative care beds for people who are experiencing homelessness and have a behavioral health condition.

The County of San Diego Board of Supervisors approved Tuesday using $44.3 million in state Behavioral Health Bridge Housing Program funds to provide more housing for San Diegans who have serious behavioral health conditions and are experiencing homelessness.

VIDEO: Suicide Numbers Trend Down in San Diego County

The number of San Diego deaths by suicide continue to decline for the fourth year in a row, according to a new annual report by the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council. Suicides decreased from a high of 465 in 2018 down to 364 in 2021.
