For the second year in a row, a majestic pine tree will come alive with lights in a holiday tradition reminiscent of some 30 years ago when the Fallbrook community held tree-lighting ceremonies at that same spot.
The once small tree at the center of those ceremonies still grows outside the Fallbrook Community Center and is now 50 feet tall. County Parks decided to bring back the past with a tree lighting last year that drew more than 1,000 visitors.
Even more visitors are expected to gather round the tree at dusk this Friday, Dec. 4 to kick off the holiday season this year. At sunset, a flip of the switch will show 2,000 LED lights sparkling in the tree’s branches.
The ceremony will be just one part of the festivities. There will be crafts for the children, face-painting and balloon twisters. The Fallbrook Union High School Band and Madrigals will provide live entertainment. Visitors will get a chance to stroll among more than 35 display booths put up by service clubs, non-profits and other organizations. They’ll be offering free information, handouts and holiday items for a suggested donation. Food and beverages will be available too.
The festivities begin at 4:30 and run until 7 p.m. The Fallbrook Community Center is located at 341 Heald Lane. Both the event and parking are free. For more information, call (760) 728-1671.
